Pedagogy and Program
WSL is a vibrant, faculty-led independent school for children in preschool through grade 8. Our pedagogy and curriculum, based on Rudolf Steiner’s understanding of human development, includes a full complement of offerings, including parent-child classes, a nursery program, two kindergartens, grades 1–8, aftercare and extended day, and summer camp and storytime programs.
The elementary and middle school curriculum has a full academic program including English, math, science, social studies, history, and geography. In addition, all students study German and Spanish starting in grade 1. Subject specialists in reading, English, and math support students in grades 2–8. Our curriculum also includes handwork, woodwork, visual and performing arts, games and physical education, eurythmy, chorus, and string ensembles and orchestra.
WSL enrolls over 200 students, with a faculty and staff of 50. First graders come primarily from within our early childhood program. Our 8th grade graduates may continue Waldorf education at the regional Waldorf High School close by, or attend local public or independent high schools in the area.
We seek to attract a diverse student body and faculty, striving to reflect the socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic diversity of the greater Boston area.
We are accredited by AWSNA and NEASC (the New England Association of Schools and Colleges), and are members of AISNE (Association of Independent Schools of New England), and NAIS (National Association of Independent Schools).
