The Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC), founded in 1988, is an American public affairs nonprofit working to promote and strengthen American pluralism by increasing understanding and improving policies that impact American Muslims. For 30 years, MPAC has built a reputation for being a dynamic and trusted American Muslim voice for policymakers, opinion shapers, and community organizers across the country. We leverage our relationships with legislators, government agencies, and thought leaders to improve public policies. We also provide media analysis and messaging strategies to reporters and media professionals to inform public opinion and advise the entertainment industry on creating more authentic, nuanced, and inclusive portrayals. We do all these things to enrich American society and to exemplify core American values of justice, human dignity, freedom, and equality for all.
ABOUT THE ROLE - SENIOR DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT & MARKETING
As the Senior Director of Development & Marketing, you will create and implement a comprehensive plan to generate external support (revenue and awareness) to move MPAC's strategic goals forward.
We are looking for a creative, sophisticated, aggressive development and marketing leader. This newly created position was designed to take our organization to the next level at this critical growth phase in MPAC's 30-year history. It is an incredible opportunity to work across a range of areas including: national digital campaigns, content creation, partnering with dynamic faith leaders, engaging policymakers, supporting a grassroots movement, entertainment industry partnerships, and more.
You will work closely with our Vice President of Strategy and Operations, Omar Noureldin, and President, Salam Al-Marayati, to push forward a comprehensive revenue and brand strategy. You will lead a team of five that includes Major Gifts, Development, Digital Marketing, and Design professionals.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:
Development Strategy and Execution (50%)
Creating and implementing an annual strategic revenue plan that includes individual, foundation, and corporate dollars, public funds, and earned income activities.
Growing regional and national annual individual gift revenue through the creation and implementation of a major gift ($5,000+ annually) program and online giving strategies.
Growing foundation income by creating a national grants strategy focused on project funding and capacity-building support.
Evaluating and improving the revenue-generating infrastructure (database, gift processing, technology, staffing, systems, etc.) necessary to increase revenue.
Traveling (~20% of time) to meet with national potential and current donors.
Marketing & Communications (35%)
Creating and implementing an annual strategic marketing plan to increase MPAC's external presence, brand and channels, including use of social media.
Ensuring all external facing parts of the organization are consistent, simple, memorable, and authentic.
Thinking three steps ahead at all times; thinking big and executing with a high level of detail.
Team Management, Support & Development (15%)
Leading the Development and Marketing department, which currently includes 5 staff members; hiring new team members when necessary.
Providing strong leadership, collaboration, capacity building, and professional development, while maintaining a balanced and sustainable workload for the development and marketing team.
Strengthening and managing the Board's Development Committee and working with the President and Board Chair to ensure that every Board member is involved in MPAC's overall revenue-generation efforts.
Working with the President to identify and add Board members who will help move MPAC's strategic goals forward.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
10+ years of overall professional experience with at least 5+ years of experience in both philanthropic/nonprofit development and managing others.
Mission-driven— You consider yourself a social justice advocate and have a sincere and demonstrated commitment to increasing the public's understanding of Islam (along with all faiths) and improving policies that impact American Muslims.
