Job Description The Division of Communications & Marketing serves as a strategic advisor to partners and units across campus, purposefully fulfilling partners’ goals and objectives, helping to increase knowledge, support enrollment and engage students, alumni, faculty and staff. The division proactively shapes the University’s brand and optimizes the University’s reputation internally and externally in a transparent manner. In words, in pictures, online and in the news media, the Division of Communications & Marketing shares the many stories of how DU and its people are improving the human condition, for the purpose of advancing the University’s strategies. The team specializes in brand management, strategic communication, community engagement, media relations, digital and social media strategy, website development, content training and strategy, print and online publications and videography and photography.
Recently, the University of Denver overhauled its public web site, applying best practices of today’s web communications to advance the website as the foundation for DU marketing and primary student recruitment vehicle. We are seeking a Manager of Web Services to expand the site across all academic and business units and achieve the goal of establishing a comprehensive web ecosystem at DU.
The Manager of Web Services will oversee and administer the University’s web operations by taking a leadership role in the strategy, design, implementation, maintenance, delivery, and optimization of DU web services. Responsibilities include defining and managing policies and procedures for website operations; managing the web services process to govern how new units are on-boarded into the ecosystem; overseeing design/UX approach, improvements and updates; managing consistency in messaging, creative, navigation and content across and throughout DU’s web ecosystem; overseeing and reporting site analytics; improving audience experience; and performing related work as required.
This individual will work closely with University academic and business units to identify opportunities to leverage the web to meet each unit’s business outcomes, improve web site reach and effectiveness, and to promote the strategic use of marketing technology. The individual has overall responsibility for team performance and operations of DU’s Web Services team, including developers, UX designers, and content strategists. This individual will also collaborate with and support the Division of Communications and Marketing in maintaining effective web communications for internal and external audiences.
Leverage experience with a comprehensive Web ecosystem – disparate websites evolving into a single system/platform. Work with Division leadership to develop a scalable service model – defining/refining the process of how new sites are on-boarded into the system. Provide guidance for the CMS implementation and migration efforts. Provide strong daily management of a multi-disciplinary team; lead and provide strong vision to accelerate the web services effort. Build and maintain strong relationships among numerous constituencies; work to consensus with university partners, vendors, and stakeholders. Create, monitor and evaluate Google Analytics dashboards and reports in order to develop and recommend SEO, conversion and site-wide optimizations. Effectively communicate project status and complex analytical findings to key stakeholders and senior university administration.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent diplomacy skills and an appreciation for various user needs within an academic environment. Demonstrated success in managing extremely complex Web projects and processes. Solid understanding of best practices in Web design, front-end development and user experience. Strategic thinker; able to apply the current Web technology landscape to the University’s needs. Ability to be creative, resourceful, flexible, and a team player. Excellent planning and project management skills across multiple simultaneously-developing websites. Demonstrated ability to manage internal teams, contractors, vendors and consultants. Ability to set, manage, and ensure teams meet deadlines. Solid analytical and problem solving skills. Excellent collaborator. Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with technical and non-technical colleagues to successfully execute projects. Ability to identify and implement process improvements.
Bachelor’s degree or a combination of relevant education and work experience, or equivalent training and certification in military setting. Ten years + related experience with at least three years in a management position. Demonstrated experience with highly complex, enterprise-level Web communications and CMS implementations. Demonstrated experience and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Technical experience with HTML, CSS, Drupal administration and site building. Experience with UX design and Web content best practices. Content management system administration and Google analytics management and reporting. Tracking code implementation and reporting. Strong understanding of UI, cross-browser compatibility and general web functions and standards. Comprehensive experience with web authoring, development and publishing tools. Familiarity with Agile project management systems and methodologies.
Master’s degree. Higher Education experience.
Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm. Some nights and weekends commitment may be required.
