Research, develop and execute comprehensive, integrated marketing communication plans for football, basketball and volleyball, and develop plans as needed for EMU's other Division I Intercollegiate Athletics programs. Lead efforts to coordinate and implement comprehensive marketing and promotional strategies and activities in an effort to increase revenue streams, program visibility and awareness, energy, excitement, school spirit, ticket sales and home game attendance. Support and help grow athletic corporate sponsorships, and tailgating, social media and University Marketing and branding efforts.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead all marketing and promotional efforts for the University's Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, including helping to research, create, organize, recommend and implement comprehensive, integrated athletics marketing plans; assist in the generation of revenue via ticket sales and sponsorship sales; plan and supervise event promotions; and prepare and execute game day activities.
Develop, implement and lead in-game promotions; direct game operation functions as they pertain to marketing (i.e., writing game day scripts, articles, PA content, message boards, etc,) and coordinating sponsorships, music/band arrangements, and spirit squads (cheer and dance teams and mascot).
Designs, coordinates and executes game day environment and promotions for football, men's and women's basketball, volleyball and other assigned sports.
Direct oversight of the Athletic Marketing staff, including one full time staff member, graphics designer, graduate assistant and student interns. Also, this position is responsible for the hiring and recruiting for these positions.
Develop and manage annual marketing budget.
Oversee the planning and development of all athletics marketing creative, including print materials, web graphics, social media graphics and digital advertisements.
Develop and manage cheer team and dance team budgets. Plan and coordinate special events that promote the Athletic Department, including pep rallies, Tailgate Tuesdays, all-university picnics, etc.
Develop and oversee all aspects of the Eagles Kids Club, Swoop/mascot program, cheerleading and dance programs.
Work in conjunction with the Athletic Ticket Office to plan and coordinate group sales of tickets through internet research, mailings, and phone solicitation of potential groups.
Serve as the Athletic Department liaison to numerous campus groups, including but not limited to the Department of Music (EMU Pep and Marching Bands), the Homecoming Committee and EMU Marketing Department.
Promote athletic programs through involvement with university committees, community organizations and related activities.
Participate in weekly athletics marketing and athletics operations meetings.
Represent the department and program to various groups, both internal and external to the University. Including the design and execution of community focused events throughout the year.
Adhere to any and all NCAA, Mid-American Conference and Eastern Michigan University policies, rules, regulations, and operational procedures.
Perform related duties as required.
A Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Sports Management or a related field, is required.
Four years of experience in the marketing industry is required. Experience marketing for NCAA Division I or II Level athletics programs is preferred.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, is required.
Strong interpersonal skills, high energy and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community are required.
Experience working with athletic teams and spirit groups (i.e., cheer team, dance team, mascot, etc.) is preferred.
Knowledge of NCAA policies and compliance is preferred.
