The Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing & Athletic Communications incumbent will create, implement, and execute comprehensive marketing plans, strategic initiatives and messaging across all 10 sport teams at Cal State, San Bernardino to stimulate interest, drive attendance, affinity and revenue. Under the supervision of the Senior Associate Athletics Director, this position is a key member of the image and identity team and will be responsible for identifying and engaging a variety of diverse audiences including alumni, students, faculty, staff, the local community, and prospects to positively influence the CSUSB Athletics story. The individual will have direct supervision over the Coordinator for Marketing & Ticket Sales in addition to game day staff.
Responsible for setting the vision and direction of our marketing and external communications in support of CSUSB Athletics' Strategic Plan. Develop and strengthen CSUSB Athletics' connection and visibility within the community. Plan and implement the communication and digital strategy for CSUSB intercollegiate athletic teams. Create and implement written marketing strategies, including supporting the planning, organization and execution of strategies for special events.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing & Athletic Communications incumbent is responsible for managing the athletics communications office and ensuring integration with marketing and game day operations staff. Utilizes knowledge and skills to increase recruitment efforts, fan engagement and revenue generation through creating video and graphic content, compelling stories, and marketing and promotional strategies while adhering to the CSUSB athletics brand.
Supervises the creation and implementation of marketing strategies to increase game attendance, revenue, and engagement with CSUSB Athletics.
Oversight of CSUSB Athletics Website including creation of season previews, game recaps, team rosters, storytelling, and human interest stories.
Provide staff with vision and leadership for content, production and execution of communications and marketing strategies for all sports.
Coordinate student-athlete nominations for University, Conference, NCAA, State and National awards and honors.
Recruitment and supervision of sport specific game day media operations for all home intercollegiate athletics and championship events, including media relations, staffing, scoring, statistics, press conferences, credentialing, and hospitality.
Primary contact for all departmental communication with conference and national office athletics communications staffs.
Authorizes dissemination of all internal and external marketing and promotional materials.
Establish and maintain positive and professional relationships, as well as serve as the department's public information and communications contact with local, regional, and national media.
Develop, recommend, and implement strategic communications policies and procedures.
Responsible for the creation of print and digital media for all game programs and fulfillment of sponsorships, including graphic design and strategies for timing and delivery.
Determines appropriate budget expenditures relative to implementation of marketing/promotion and communication plans.
Oversight of department audio and video livestreaming.
Support ticket sales strategy development and execution.
Bachelor's degree in marketing, public relations, sport administration, business management, communications, or other related field. Master's degree preferred.
Experience as a lead to provide work direction to staff members.
Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
Must be able to work with considerable independence and significant creativity and initiative.
Experience with NCAA student-athlete and game day/fan experience.
Familiarity with Adobe, Photoshop, PremierPro, or InDesign programs.
Must be available for occasional travel, and be willing to work extended and irregular hours, including nights and weekends.
Successful completion of required background checks.
Knowledge of and adherence to all university, CCAA, NCAA compliance rules and regulations.
Strong organizational skills with ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities.
Team-oriented individual with willingness to take initiative and desire to work in collegiate athletics.
Demonstration of support for diversity, equity, and inclusion as well as participate in maintaining a respectful, positive work environment.
Ability to work with students, coaches, and administrators in a wide variety of situations.
