The Marketing & Communications Director serves as the narrator of the school sharing the school’s story to all relevant constituencies. They also serve as an integral member of the Advancement Department advancing the school both internally and externally. Full-time, 12 month position.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Develop and execute the annual marketing strategy and strategic marketing plan for Vail Mountain School that engages internal and external constituents in the support and promotion of the school
Identify emerging marketing opportunities, design effective targeting strategies, and report on results
Oversee the production of a variety of materials meant to increase the school’s visibility and competitive positioning, and enhance the public’s perception of the school
Collaborate with the Admissions team and the Alumni and Development Office to develop strategies to recruit prospective students and engage committed alumni and families
Create and direct a publications program (concept, design, content, editorial, and production for paper and electronic communications) that reaches and influences the school’s target audiences
Produce the school’s Annual Report in collaboration with the Head of School and Director of Advancement
Shape and maintain the strategic and creative direction of the school’s website and integrated online presence on social media platforms
Cultivate and maintain working relationships between the school and the media; create and maintain an official point of contact for public information
Become “the expert” on what’s happening around the school including photographing, communicating, and championing student and faculty efforts and achievements
Prepare “Friday News” on a weekly basis to share information and the VMS story
Work and manage professional consultants contracted to address communication and marketing goals
Participate in the implementation of a crisis management communication plan
WHO YOU ARE:
A “raise your hand” type of person. You’re interested in participating in school events like orientation trips, field trips, sitting at lunch tables, assisting with carpool, hut trips, and Ski Fridays as necessary. You are ready to participate fully in the life of the school.
Willing to provide general supervision of students
Able to communicate in a timely and professional manner with students, parents, colleagues, and volunteers
Ready to attend related meetings and assist with afternoon/evening programs; some of which may occur outside of the school day
Actively promoting the mission of the school
Degree from four-year college or university required; masters degree preferred
At least 5 years of experience in a marketing or communications position required; previous experience at an independent school preferred
Experience with InDesign, Digital Marketing, Photoshop, Photography, and Videography strongly preferred
Additional Salary Information: Negotiable, depending on experience.
