Communications & Marketing Coordinator, Library - Georgetown University Main Campus
In coordination with the Dean of the Library, this position is responsible for developing, coordinating, and executing the Georgetown University Library 's communications and marketing efforts in order to improve awareness and understanding of Library resources, services, and events among campus stakeholders and external communities. The incumbent works closely with the Dean of the Library and other library leaders to set priorities and direction for library communications, as well as with library colleagues who coordinate communications at the unit and department level. In coordination with the University's Office of Public Affairs and Communications, the Library's Communications and Marketing Coordinator serves as the initial point of contact for questions from within the campus community and when indicated, for external inquiries.
Duties include, but re not limited to:
Works with the Dean of the Library, other senior managers, and library staff to develop a Library communications strategy targeting the campus community and external audiences. Proactively ensures that communications are timely, strategic, effective, and engaging to diverse audiences.
Coordinates library communications across all platforms and maintains consistent branding and messaging through a variety of venues, including print and online publications, websites, digital signage, email, social media, displays, events, and person-to-person contact.
Works with colleagues to craft messaging and develop content that aligns with and advances Library goals.
Solicits, writes, edits, schedules, and disseminates library news content in a variety of formats to campus via social media, e-newsletters, broadcast e-mails, and other publications.
Tracks media mentions in student media, campus roundtables, external media, social media, and organizes responses where indicated.
Assesses the reach and impact of communication efforts to refine subsequent messaging.
Serves as designated press contact in the library for campus publications. When appropriate, coordinates and assists with formulation of responses by relevant library departments and administrators.
Works with the University Office of Communications to handle media inquiries, press releases and other requests. Ensures that library communications are consistent with University standards and policies.
Assists library staff in developing and implementing public relations initiatives to market library expertise, resources, services, and events to users, donors, and the community.
Coordinates marketing activities with library staff to ensure consistent messaging and maximum impact.
Surveys and targets diverse audiences; assesses the impact and outcome of marketing efforts.
Provides feedback to colleagues from users on needs, trends, and demands to address.
Library Contributions and Professional Development
Serves on library and university-wide committees and task forces. Participates as needed in local consortia and regional and national associations. Continually acquires new knowledge and updates skills to enhance professional performance in all areas of responsibility. Keeps abreast of developments, trends and issues in the library field. Monitors trends and maintains currency in emerging issues within areas of expertise. Performs other responsibilities, as needed; participates in meetings and in planning; suggests revisions in policies and enhancements to services; participates in achieving library-wide priorities; prepares statistics, and writes reports.
B.A. in a related field.
Three or more years of experience in communications, marketing or public relations fields or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated skill as an effective communicator and exceptional writer.
Highly organized, analytical, flexible, and detail-oriented individual who is able to manage multiple projects.
Able to work independently, set priorities, and take initiative, while also able to work well in a team setting; strong organizational, communication and time-management skills.
Given that the position may involve interactions with a wide range of constituents and audiences, excellent interpersonal skills are required, both in face-to-face and formal communications.
Experience in promoting academic or not-for-profit institutions is preferred, as is knowledge of the mission and operations of academic libraries.
Demonstrated ability to work with all personnel in a collaborative, dynamic environment.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Apps, and facility with social media platforms required.
Experience with webpage development, Photoshop, and InDesign preferred.
